Safe with Mother
by Jeri Thorpe
11" x 14" graphite
Available - Inquire
(then)
"From a photo of a Thoroughbred mare with her foal. I quite liked it at the time, and now I see lots I would change."

Summer Sun
by Jeri Thorpe
11" x 14" colored pencil
Available - Inquire
(now)
"This is from a photo of mine. A retired rope horse resting in the New Mexico high desert."

The Lookout
by Sal Vasquez
14" x 18" oil
Available - Inquire
(then)
"Free spirit of the horse looking out so that the rest of the herd can rest at ease. Wild horses roamed the Western USA. A few still do in parts of America - let's keep them free."

Stop and Smell the Flowers
by Sal Vasquez
20" x 24" oil
Available - Inquire
(now)
"The painting shows a horse enjoying the poppy fields of the high desert of the Antelope Valley in California."

Before the Race
by Judy Wood
14" x 20" glass mosaic
(then)
"This mosaic was done from a reference shot I got while hanging around the backstretch at the local track. There was something about the look of this particular horse that appealed to me, with his intelligent expression and nervous energy. Track pieces have the bonus of letting the artist play a little with some "non-horse" colours in the jockey's silks and on the horse. I took liberties with this, choosing to go with the colours that appealed to me rather than the ones that were in the photo I took. "

Annalise War Pony
by Judy Wood
8" x 10" digital photomontage
Available - Inquire
(now)
"I have always done a lot of photography as the basis of my other artwork, but now am working more directly with photographic material. I have a good quality digital SLR to shoot with, and I rework my images to a greater or lesser extent in Photoshop.

War Ponies and Native images in general are among the recurring themes in my work, and I am producing a series of War Pony photomontage images. Annalise in the image is actually a friend's Warmblood, but I contend that being a War Pony is about attitude, not about breeding!! "

Sultry Sonnet and Soul Patrol
by Karen Brenner
20" x 24" oil on masonite
(now)
"This painting of American Saddlebred mare, Sultry Sonnet, and her colt, AR The Soul Patrol, is part of the "Beautiful Horses of Ohio" series which I am currently completing. Begun in January 2006, the series will feature 48 paintings of horses from all over the state of Ohio. Over 25 breeds will be represented. The "Beautiful Horses of Ohio" paintings will be on exhibit at my studio in Wooster, Ohio, on Sunday, November 4, 2007. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Many weekends during the summer of 2006 were spent traveling around Ohio photographing wonderful horses and meeting the fantastic people who love them. Sultry Sonnet is owned by April Vercoe, who nominated a different Saddlebred for the project. While visiting her farm, April invited me to photograph any of her horses, and I was intrigued by Sultry Sonnet who is a beautiful example of the breed. Here Sultry Sonnet is with a wonderful alert pose mimicked by her colt."
